Host an event at the TRU Library Makerspace!
Are you part of a TRUSU student group or TRU department that wants to host an event in the Makerspace? Campus groups can host events in the Makerspace that relate to making, design, or utilize the technologies we provide.
What types of events?
Some examples of the types of events that can be hosted in the Makerspace are:
- A workshop on graphic design, prototyping using Arduinos, sewing, 3D printing, etc.
- A workshop that shares cultural knowledge or practices
- An event where attendees work on individual projects with help from presenters, such as mending clothing, creating a website, or designing 3D objects
- An event meant to increase exposure to technologies or methods for a particular group
- An event tied to another campus event, such as making buttons or stickers for an outreach event
These are just a couple of examples. If you have other ideas please contact us to see if they work in the space.
What do we provide?
- We can reserve the space for events with more than 10 users for up to 2 hours
- We provide an event booking and registration system and calendar
- We can re-post advertisements through our social media channels
- We have lockers available for groups to store materials
What are the limitations?
- A maximum of 15 attendees in the space at a time (not including our presenters and our staff)
- There must be no cost to attendees (contact us if this is a concern, we provide technologies and some supplies and TRUSU may be able to help with funds for supplies, in some cases exceptions can be made)
- Events must not be for profit or a promotion for a particular business
- No food can be served in the Makerspace
- Some types of activities don’t work in our space, such as activities that use extremely wet or messy materials that could damage furniture or equipment, or materials that are dangerous or hazardous.
What are your responsibilities?
- Work with us to ensure your event will work in the space
- Ensure attendees follow our code of conduct
- Follow all covid guidelines for events at TRU
- Follow direction of staff at all times
- Clean the space after the event
How to get started?
- The best way to get started is to contact us and explain what you are looking to do, when, and for how many people
- Come into the space and see if it will work for your event
