Show Up and Make: Co-Working and Learning in the TRU Library Makerspace

Join us for twice-weekly co-working sessions where students, staff, and faculty can work on projects, learn new skills, and collaborate in a supportive environment. Whether you’re a curious beginner or an experienced maker, these sessions will help you make progress on your goals through expert support, access to resources, and a supportive community.

Why Attend:

  1. Accountability and Momentum: Working alongside others helps you stay motivated, maintain focus, and make progress on your projects.
  2. Support: Get guidance from the Makerspace Librarian, staff, CELT faculty, and fellow participants.
  3. Resources: Access the Makerspace’s extensive tools and resources and get guidance on other campus resources.
  4. Community Building: Meet like-minded creators from various disciplines.
  5. Flexible attendance: You can come to as many or few sessions as you want, and drop in anytime during the session depending on your schedule.
  6. Coffee and snacks: Fuel your creativity with caffeine and sugar.

For Everyone:

  • Learn new skills: Learn 3D printing, embroidery, or dive into Artificial Intelligence. We have a website with tutorials for most of our technologies to help get you started.
  • Personal Projects: Create something for yourself or a friend or bring an innovative idea to life.
  • Repair, Maintain, and Upcycle: Give new life to old items by repairing, maintaining, or upcycling something
  • Digital Storytelling: Use technology to share your narrative in compelling new ways.

For Students:

  • Course Projects: Take your assignments to the next level.
  • Portfolio Building: Create a showcase your skills to share with future collaborators or employers.
  • Student Club Initiatives: Collaborate on projects for your student organizations.

For Faculty and Staff:

  • Curriculum Design: Prototype engaging, hands-on assignments for your courses.

Skill Share Workshops

Skill Share Workshops are short, hands-on sessions where you learn the basics of a technology or method. Right now we are offering workshops on 3D Printing and Collaborating with Artificial Intelligence, but we’re planning workshops that cover a wide range of topics, from soldering to traditional crafts.

What to Expect:

  • 1-2 hours in length
  • No experience necessary
  • Focus on hands-on learning
  • Chance to work on your own ideas or follow along with provided examples
