We’re Hiring 2 Makerspace Student Ambassadors for September, 2025!

The TRU Library Makerspace is seeking passionate and creative individuals to join our team as Student Makerspace Ambassadors for September to December 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive culture within the Makerspace while gaining valuable hands-on experience.

The ideal candidate for Student Makerspace Ambassador is someone who is passionate about learning, making, and helping others. They should have a genuine enthusiasm for education and a desire to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all users, regardless of their experience or confidence level.

This year, applicants must be available for training in the first half of June.

What’s the role:

  • Represent the TRU Library Makerspace and our values and pedagogies, including hands-on learning and belonging (see our pedagogies and values here)
  • Provide tours to new users and small groups.
  • Help users get started and troubleshoot issues.
  • Support Makerspace staff
  • Assist with outreach events, workshops, and other activities as needed

What we need from you (requirements):

  • 4 hours per week from September to December (start of classes to end of classes)
  • 8-hours of training (dates to be determined)
  • Up to 8 hours of other events and meetings during the term (dates to be determined)

What we are looking for (qualifications):

  • Genuine enthusiasm for helping people learn.
  • Experience with any kind of making, design, art, technology, programming, crafting, prototyping, or related activities. We do NOT expect you to have experience with makerspace technologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently.
  • While not required, having used the Makerspace is the past would be beneficial.
  • Enrolment as a full-time student (minimum 9 credits) at TRU during the appointed semester, with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Interested candidates should apply by filling out the online application form and uploading their current resume between May 6 and May 11th. Interviews will be conducted online or in-person depending on the availability of applications from May 12 to May 16.
