Soft Opening Monday January 31st!

Monday, January 31^st to February 11^th

TRU Makerspace will be open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm for drop-in users as we launch the space.

That’s right, it’s finally here! After a long road, we are excited to say that next week we are having a soft opening!

Why we are starting with a Soft Opening?

The Makerspace is still a work in progress but in true maker fashion, we are making it work! A soft opening means that we are opening for drop in users but aren’t widely advertising yet while we finalize the space. Some furniture and equipment have been slow to arrive, and parts of our website are still being built. Technology booking and lendable technology kits are still being finalized and will be limited while we finish setting up the space. Most importantly, we are also learning how to work in the space and support users with everything from VR to sewing machines!

Our hope is that this soft opening will provide a gentle learning experience as we navigate how to work in the space before we fully open on February 14th. When we can do so safely we will be holding an official opening event, so keep an eye out for that announcement. Until then, we ask during this soft opening please be patient with us, and with yourselves. As users come in and utilize the space, we will learn together how to make this space work.

Covid Guidelines

Due to Covid-19, we are asking users to follow our safety guidelines. Full guidelines are posted online and around the space. To summarize, the Covid protocols for the space are:
– Wearing your mask at all times and that your face covering must cover your mouth and nose.
– Hands must be sanitized when entering the space and before using any equipment.
– There is a maximum of 10 users plus staff in the space at any given time (and 2 users plus staff in any of the smaller rooms).
– Social distance as much as possible
